{Fort Morgan}
Construction began 1819, completed 1834. Large brick fort serviced the Civil War, Spanish-American War and both world wars. It played a major role during the Battle of Mobile Bay (1864). Museum details fort's history.

The textures and realness of the fort created a feeling of us living in the time and imagining the soldiers scurrying around us, as if we were ghosts of history past.

The boys pretended the whole time we were there. Many times I had no idea where they were, which if you know me, made me a bit uneasy considering the massive drop-offs since this is the middle of the fort and the upper part was, well....above us without railings!!

Amazing that this was created by some amazing strong hands!

Space to run. The boys yet again running from my sight.

The telescope was enjoyed by both boys. An oil rig now occupies Mobile Bay where the attack took place.

This has to be my favorite yet! A small stream ran around most of the fort. The boys spent some of their time jumping from one side to the next. Had I thought of it, I would have captured that! But this sums up the beauty that was around this fort. We were in awe!

And yet to come was our evening spent out on the beach of Mobile Bay collecting shells as well as admiring the beauty before us.

That place looks amazing! I can only imagine how much fun the boys had! The shot of the stream is gorgeous, I bet you could sell that as a print on etsy. Loving the photos of your vacay, keep them coming. I want to see some lensbaby shots. ;)
ReplyDeleteJust stumbled upon your blog. So fun to find someone discovering my home. I shot an engagement session at Ft. Morgan a few years ago. It's a great place to explore. I'm from Foley (Magnolia Springs) and we were just in Orange Beach last week. Hope you had a great time. Your captures are wonderful.
